LUCKY JANE - Matted Collector's Edition

MALTA – THE TURNING POINT

Already noted as one of the most gifted aviation artists of his generation, Anthony Saunders depicts a glimpse of events that day in this eye-catching piece. In the foreground Sergeant Paul Brennan of 249 Squadron destroys a Ju87 in some of the fighting over Grand Harbour, Valetta whilst in the background the island’s anti-aircraft guns, boosted by a recent and much needed supply of ammunition, put up a huge barrage of flak.

MERLIN CHORUS - THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN PORTFOLIO

With the distinctive sound of their Merlin engines echoing around Lulworth Cove, Spitfires of 152 Squadron return to their base at Warmwell to re-fuel and re-arm during the Battle of Britain

MIDWAY - THE ATTACK ON THE SORYU

BD pilots pull out of their death-defying dives having delivered their 1000lb bombs perfectly on target with three direct hits. Already there is utter chaos aboard the Sôryû as exploding ammunition and igniting fuel erupt onto the flight deck from the hangars below. Secondary explosions rip through the ship, fires rage beyond control and her hull shudders to contain the violent inferno. The Sôryû is doomed.

MiG ENCOUNTER

Colonel Robin Olds and his flight of eight F-4 Phantoms from the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing encounter a large group of North Vietnamese MiG-17s over the hills north of Hai Phong, 20 May 1967. During the clash that followed Olds and his WSO 1st Lt. Stephen B. Croker destroyed two MiG-17s.

MOSQUITO THUNDER

Set on 1 April 1943 – the twenty-fifth anniversary of the RAF’s formation – Anthony depicts Sqn Ldr Roy Ralston DSO DFM leading a group of the squadron’s aircraft as they race home to RAF Marham following a highly successful strike on the railway workshops in the German city of Trier.

NIGHT HUNTERS - THE NIGHT SKIES OVER THE REICH PORTFOLIO

Leutnant Jorg Cypionka of 10./NJG11 engages a powerful incoming force of fast, high-flying RAF Mosquitos from 139 (Jamaica) Squadron (PFF) in one of his unit’s few remaining ME262A jets.

PACIFIC GLORY

Anthony Saunders’ stunning painting graphically recalls a moment during the Allied fight-back. On 5 October 1943, ten months after the island had fallen to the Japanese, American naval aircraft raided Wake, one of many such operations carried out by the US Navy and Marines. At the forefront of the attack was Lt. Cmdr. Edward ‘Butch’ O’Hare, the US Navy’s first Ace and first Naval recipient of the Medal of Honor. Throwing his F6F Hellcat into a furious dogfight, he engages Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zeroes based on the island and in the process adds two more victories to his tally. Under O’Hare’s experienced guidance his young wingman, Lt. Alex Vraciu, claimed his first kill, and would later become one of the foremost Aces in the US Navy with 19 victories.
